SDA Deputy Project Manager (Submarine Deep Maintenance)
UK Ministry of Defence
Date: 12 hours ago
City: Plymouth, England
Contract type: Full time

HMNB Devonport, Plymouth
Job Summary
The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent (CASD), and delivering some of the most technically complex programmes in defence. At least one of four nuclear-armed submarines, supported by smaller attack submarines, is on patrol at all times: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
At the SDA, we strive to Support, Deliver and Aspire and put out values at the heart of our recruitment process. We believe that everyone should feel comfortable to be themselves and be supported to do their best work. As part of a diverse and inclusive workforce, our team will find a community to belong to. We believe that, by celebrating different backgrounds and different perspectives, together we’ll achieve the extraordinary.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
The SDA are seeking an experienced, capable and well-motivated individual to be the Deputy Project Manager for a highly complex nuclear submarine Deep Maintenance project in a closely integrated Joint Team with key Industry Partners.
A full-time working pattern and regular in-person workplace attendance are therefore essential for information security reasons and to also maximise the project benefits realised from formal/informal face-to-face collaboration.
The position is open to UK Nationals. Travel to other UK sites will occasionally be required. There is enhanced security in some areas of the SDA which could restrict entry and/or access to information to only those persons holding UK Nationality.
Hybrid and flexible working can be considered for this position. However, given that the location of the project is at the waterfront in His Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport, regular workplace attendance is required for engagement with Industry Partners and for essential information access due to security constraints. In person workplace attendance is therefore expected to be minimum 60%. Candidates are encouraged to discuss options with the recruiting line manager before applying.
It should be noted that this can be a demanding role with activities that may include, but are not limited to, climbing long vertical ladders and entering confined spaces. Appropriate training will be provided.
