FULL TIME EQUIVALENT SALARY RANGE: £38,100 - £48,100 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Working within a BBC Charity setting, with a workforce of circa 150 EFT, the Senior Advisor will provide expert support, advice and training, on all aspects of working with children, across all areas of the Charity. The role will involve embedding a strong safeguarding culture, providing expert guidance to often complex issues, identifying, developing and delivering training and establishing systems to mitigate risk. The role mainly works independently to resolve complex queries but will seek external support where required and will build close working relationships across the BBC SSR and Child Protection and Safeguarding teams.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
- Is accountable for being the subject matter expert on safeguarding across the charity, providing support, guidance, information, advice and subject matter expertise, often of a specialist nature.
- Raises awareness of potential safeguarding risk by proactively researching new areas of work or emerging themes alongside investigating complaints, safeguarding concerns and alleged incidents.
- Work in partnership with teams across the Charity during the planning stages of productions, activities and events and advise on safeguarding including grant making, fundraising and content production and including all ‘working with children’ activities.
- Leads the safeguarding network and develops and facilitates a wider network of safeguarding champions and supports them to respond to day to day queries.
- Develop safeguarding policy, training, guidance, culture and practice, execute this and monitor compliance.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Extensive safeguarding knowledge: Strong understanding of legislation, statutory guidance, codes of practice, and procedures, with the ability to advise on legal compliance and risk management.
- Practical safeguarding experience: Direct involvement in managing safeguarding concerns within diverse organisations, including experience of making referrals to statutory agencies and handling sensitive information with discretion.
- Leadership and culture-building: Proven ability and experience in promoting a safeguarding-first culture, influencing organisational practices, and developing and implementing effective safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Training and communication skills: Experienced in designing and delivering safeguarding training for staff and volunteers, and skilled in presenting clear, professional communications to internal and external audiences.
- Professional qualifications and analytical ability: Holds relevant diplomas (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH) and memberships (e.g. CIOSH, CIEH), with strong skills in analysing complex issues and creating practical solutions.
