PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Are you a relationship-builder with a passion for data strategy? The BBC is seeking a Data Governance Engagement Lead to be the vital link between our Data Governance team and stakeholders across the organisation.
This is more than a governance role — it’s a chance to influence how data is understood, managed, and valued across one of the world’s most iconic media organisations. You’ll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team that’s shaping the BBC’s data future.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
- Be the face of Data Governance – Serve as the first point of contact for stakeholders, representing the Data Governance team with clarity, confidence, and credibility.
- Build strong partnerships – Cultivate trusted relationships with Domain-aligned stakeholders, including Data Owners and Stewards, to embed impactful governance practices.
- Educate and empower – Act as a subject matter expert, translating complex governance concepts for less technical audiences and leading clear, engaging communications across the organisation.
- Drive governance maturity – Lead domain-level assessments, develop improvement roadmaps, and track progress to elevate data governance standards across the BBC.
- Champion collaboration – Work closely with Data Governance Leads and Programme Management to align resources and ensure smooth, effective implementation.
- Shape the future of data – Contribute to key strategic artefacts like the Data Governance Strategy and Operating Model, helping define how governance services are delivered.
- Make a meaningful impact – Join a mission-driven organisation where your work will influence how data is managed, understood, and used across one of the world’s most iconic media brands.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrable experience gained as a Data Governance Lead; experience in rolling out a data governance programme/s in a complex environment, using a federated approach to Data Governance and an understanding of how it enables and empowers an organisation.
- Ability to manage stakeholder relationships at all levels, translating complex data governance theories, processes and guidelines to non-technical audiences including leading presentations, demonstrating the value and desirability of improving Data Governance Maturity and objectives
- Experience in managing change at a large organisation. Ability to document the “as-is” as well as the “to-be” and provide guidance to stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate and build consensus across different teams and products and to mediate between teams to achieve successful outcomes
- Tech-savvy and detail-focused – Familiar with Agile tools like Jira, with a sharp eye for quality and a forward-thinking approach to AI-driven data governance.
