Job Overview
Job purpose
An exciting opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and experience in data protection and information governance.
Although the Apprentice is expected to complete tasks the Data Protection Officer will have direct responsibility for allocating and where required, prioritising the day-to-day work of the Apprentice. The Apprentice will be supported by the Council's Employability Team in relation to completion of Business Administration qualification framework. They will also act as a link person between Apprentice, Data Protection Officer and qualification Training Provider.
A Modern Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme that leads to an industry approved qualification. As part of this post, the Apprentice must achieve milestone targets related to completion of SVQ 2 Business and Administration (SCQF Level 5) as agreed on an individual Training Plan. Failure to meet these targets may result in the termination of the Apprenticeship post.
Fife Council is committed to creating employment and training opportunities for the young people of Fife. This post is part of that commitment. This post is funded through the Workforce Youth Investment programme and therefore is restricted to applicants who live in Fife and are aged between 16 and 24 on or by the specified start date.
The postholder will work, under supervision and after training, to provide support to the Council's Data Protection Team, including:
Supporting the team to handle all data protection enquires, assessment activities and in ensuring the Council's compliance with Data Protection legislation.
Responding to simple data protection enquiries and data protection breach notifications
Contributing to the development and maintenance of the Council's Record of Processing Activities and Information Sharing Register
Assisting with data protection communication activities within Fife Council including website and intranet-based content.
Assisting with the delivery of data protection training and assessment activities
Assisting with data protection compliance risk management and assurance activities.
Educated to National 4 Level including qualifications in English and Maths.
You should have a genuine interest in privacy, human rights or the law.
You will ideally have an understanding of using current Microsoft computer-based applications and the ability to develop good verbal and written communication skills.
You will have the aptitude to develop key skills including accuracy, attention to detail, time management, customer service, interpersonal and organisational skills.
