Our Tax team manages the tax requirements of all Ocado companies both in the UK and internationally, and is a key link between various stakeholders. We currently have a full time vacancy for an established Manager/Senior Manager – North America with responsibility for defining and implementing relevant tax policies, ensuring that tax compliance requirements are met in North America (excluding Canadian Indirect Tax), and ensuring proactive management of tax related risks, opportunities and efficiencies

You will be reporting to the Head of Indirect Tax and Transactions with responsibility for all North American direct tax matters and USA Sales and Use Tax.

Accountabilities

  • You will be a key member of the Group Tax team with responsibility for all North America taxes including defining and implementing relevant tax policies, ensuring that tax compliance requirements are met and proactive management of Tax related risks and opportunities
  • Management of North America taxes - covering the Group’s activities in the US and Canada (excluding Canadian Indirect Taxes)
  • Own and develop the external advisor relationships, ensuring best service and value is achieved
  • Responsible for the Group's US Tax Compliance and filings, ranging across all taxes, from Sales & Use tax, Corporate Income Tax, Property Taxes, etc
  • Continuously improve processes to ensure effective and compliant tax management and accounting Property Tax, etc. working closely with Finance colleagues teams and external advisors (where relevant)
  • Interpret, translate and apply tax legislative changes and provide technical notes on impacts for their area of responsibility across the relevant entities
  • Proactively minimise commercial risks, providing recommendations to optimise outcomes for the business. Monitor and own the North America Tax Risk Register for the Group and ensuring relevant controls are maintained and embedded
  • Identify and lead on projects to achieve tax efficiencies in relevant States in which we operate
  • Work closely with the International Solutions Finance team to provide input into financial modelling
  • Identify and deliver relevant commercial opportunities including establishing, quantifying and tracking of all incentives and other beneficial agreements
  • Support with tax related queries and be a go-to contact
  • Support the definition and implementation of the Group tax strategy aligned with overall business objectives and regulatory environment
  • Input into the definition of tax policies across the Group and manage their implementation and adherence
  • Work closely with the External Reporting team to ensure that tax treatment is in line with accounting policy. Support the Group’s external reporting and audit processes
  • Develop and deliver training courses to support understanding and compliance of tax policies and standards across the business
  • Support transformation and business change activities with tax expertise and guidance

About You

  • Finance and Tax accreditation (ACA, CTA or equivalent)
  • Significant exposure to US (and ideally Canadian) tax
  • In depth experience in a fast pace global environment, preferably with extensive experience in a large-scale plc reporting environment (FTSE 250+)
  • Experience of communicating complex tax issues to non-tax stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and act on your own initiative
  • Mindset for continuous learning for themselves, the tax team and the wider Finance community
