Community Infrastructure Levy Technical and Monitoring Officer
Crawley Borough Council
Date: 12 hours ago
City: Crawley, England
Contract type: Full time

About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a key role in our Planning team, providing the team with technical and administrative support. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the Community Infrastructure Levy, which is expected to raise over £16 million in contributions from developers towards infrastructure projects by 2040.
There are a range of residential and commercial development pressures in the borough creating a very interesting place to pursue your career. Major work is underway to regenerate the town centre and to redevelop our employment areas, and Gatwick airport is currently pursuing expansion through proposals for a second northern runway. Crawley is one of the UK’s most successful New Towns and the economic hub of West Sussex. It has a historic core alongside the post-war town centre, surrounded by carefully planned residential neighbourhoods, with a large employment area. Crawley has excellent rail and road links to London, Brighton and Hove, Horsham and the south coast.
We have an adopted Crawley borough Local Plan 2023 -2040 which sets out an up-to-date approach to address the challenges facing the borough in delivering housing and other services to meet local need. The council adopted its Community Infrastructure Levy in 2016.
You will be based in our Development Management team but would work closely with colleagues in Strategic Planning and other parts of the council. We are looking for a flexible, professional and customer focussed team member to work in an environment where the aim is to provide excellent service to all customers.
Working alongside planning colleagues, you will be responsible for:
You will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of formal legal or regulatory processes, ideally gained in a local government or other public authority setting, together with a general understanding of the planning system and developer contributions. The ability to interpret scaled maps and plans is essential, together with strong communication, numerical and IT skills; attention to detail; accurate record keeping; and the ability to work on your own initiative with minimal supervision. Detailed knowledge of the planning system and developer contributions is desirable, but training in the processes and legal requirements for the operation of the Community Infrastructure Levy will be provided.
We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible, as we may close this advert before the stated closing date if enough applications are received.
Additional information
You will require a full current UK driving licence.
Flexible working with slightly reduced hours or job share requests may be considered.

We offer a generous employee benefits package, with a range of discounts, benefits and wellbeing incentives to suit everyone.
Our way of working
Our shared values and behaviours reflect the special nature of our council. We encourage all colleagues to put them into practice, whatever job they do. Take a look to see if we are the perfect match.
