Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies. Our in-vitro Diagnostic Assay manufacturing site in Dundee has an exciting opportunity for a Facilities Engineer to join the team.

Using their knowledge of engineering best practice, the successful incumbent will provide engineering support and advice throughout Axis-Shield functions ensuring the smooth and timely repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and systems. This is achieved by performing Preventive Maintenance activities, responding effectively to breakdowns, monitoring equipment performance and providing valuable input to help maintain process yields and efficiencies. In addition, they will provide engineering support for building services and function to maintain building standards in a compliant fashion. (Quality, regulatory, H&S and statutory standards). Dedicated to continually improving Abbott Dundee processes and practices.

Main Purpose Of Job

Within the engineering environment, the Facilities Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support and advice ensuring the smooth and timely repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and systems. In addition, provide engineering support for building services and function to maintain building standards in a compliant fashion. This role will provide callout cover, as required, (24/7).

This Role Would Be In a Shift Pater Of

  • 2 weeks - 6 am to 2 pm
  • 2 weeks - 2 pm to 10 pm

Accountabilities

  • Ensure efficient operation and continuous improvement of critical and automated systems by reviewing performance and maintenance history, and leading quality investigations (e.g., A3, root cause analysis) related to facilities, utilities, and equipment.
  • Maintain all building services to a high standard, ensuring timely completion of preventative and demand maintenance tasks (target <30 days), while performing frontline maintenance on systems such as HVAC, refrigeration, and water purification.
  • Plan and oversee small-scale building and equipment projects, coordinating with contractors for routine repairs and upgrades, and guiding cross-functional teams through change control, validation, and documentation processes.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of equipment and instruments to identify performance improvements, increase OEE, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
  • Communicate effectively across departments, contribute meaningfully to meetings, and foster collaboration while taking full accountability for workload and compliance with site policies and regulations.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, support training initiatives, and promote a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Planning and overseeing small building and new equipment projects. Arrange/liaise with contractors for day to day repairs (Electrical, Plumbing, Joinery etc.).

  • Requirements

    • Modern Apprenticeship Level 4, HND, HNC, or equivalent qualification.
    • Significant experience in facilities engineering within a regulated industry/environment.
    • Strong background in facilities maintenance and/or maintenance of automated equipment.
    • Electrical and mechanical experience essential.
    • Hands-on experience with QA investigations and compliance processes.
    • Proficient in writing technical reports and documentation.
    • Advanced computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CMMS (Maximo preferred).
    • Familiarity with process engineering and PLC controls is advantageous.
    • Strong understanding of documentation and regulatory compliance requirements.
    • Self-motivated, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
