We’re working with a leading fire and life safety specialist who are seeking an experienced Senior Fire Alarm Estimator to join their commercial team in Essex.

The Role
As Senior Fire Alarm Estimator, you’ll play a key role in pricing and securing projects ranging from £50k up to £2M. You’ll work closely with the sales and project teams to ensure all estimates are accurate, commercially viable, and fully compliant with client and regulatory specifications.
This is a client-facing role, so strong communication and commercial acumen are essential. You’ll need to be confident in reviewing drawings, undertaking site visits (where required), and producing professional tender documents that reflect both technical expertise and commercial value.

This is a client-facing role, so strong communication and commercial acumen are essential. You’ll need to be confident in reviewing drawings, undertaking site visits (where required), and producing professional tender documents that reflect both technical expertise and commercial value.
Responsibilities
- Producing detailed and accurate estimates for fire alarm systems in line with BS5839.
- Reviewing tender documents, technical specifications, and drawings to identify scope.
- Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers for equipment selection and pricing.
- Ensuring all proposals are commercially sound and aligned with margin expectations.
- Supporting the sales team with technical queries and client meetings during the bid process.
- Identifying and mitigating commercial risks in the bid process.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of the estimating process and tools.
- Supporting junior estimators where needed and acting as a point of technical escalation.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience estimating fire alarm systems (commercial/industrial sectors).
- Strong technical knowledge of BS5839 and associated fire safety standards.
- Commercially astute with a solid understanding of margins, project costing, and profitability.
- Experience with major brands such as Gent, Hochiki, Advanced, Apollo, or similar.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications with ease.
- Confident communicator with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Excellent IT skills – proficient in Excel and ideally familiar with estimation platforms.
- Full UK driving licence – site visits may be required on occasion.
- Based in Essex or surrounding areas (hybrid working considered for the right candidate).
- FIA Units or other relevant technical qualifications.
- Experience estimating integrated life safety or security systems.
- Previous involvement in public sector frameworks or large-scale bids.
