About The Role

We are seeking an organised and proactive Transport Planner to join our team in Winsford. You will be responsible for planning and organising drivers and vehicles to ensure optimal payloads for vehicle collection and delivery. Your role will involve scheduling daily operations to maximise cost efficiency while maintaining strict legal compliance in all aspects of the transport operation.

Transport Planning Operations

  • Plan the daily vehicle collections based on insurance company instructions
  • Routing collections for designated areas incorporating deliveries and returns where possible and preferable to do so, through company owned trucks
  • Organise driver/vehicle run schedules for collection and/or delivery of vehicles, ensure cost effectiveness with full capacity and compatible geographic locations, that work is evenly distributed, drivers’ hours/routes are maximised, and vehicle use is optimised at all times
  • Understand and comply with all Driver processes, procedures and legislative requirements including the working time directive, organising run schedules for each driver in consideration of EU driving regulations in respect of breaks, driving limits, working time directive and rest periods
  • Communicate thoroughly with our Drivers regarding their collections, returns and deliveries
  • Ensure that collections and deliveries are carried out within the terms of the agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA) and on collection that we are notified
  • Understand all aspects of the planning department including specialist and small lorry collection processes in order to provide cover for this department as and when required
  • Keep daily record of data of vehicles collected and instructed and monitor and organise all documentation to accompany each run schedule including driver check sheets, special instructions etc.
  • Ensure all the correct documentation is available for the drivers prior to departing and communicate throughout the day with drivers to advise collection/delivery runs, produce maps, respond to queries and resolve problems to maintain the delivery/collection schedule. Report any issues or concerns to your line manager
  • Manage instances where the owner or custodian cannot be contacted in accordance with agreed procedures
  • Ensure all planning policies are followed and report any issues to your line manage

Person Specification

  • IT Literate with proficiency in planning
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a planning or similar role
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong Geographical knowledge of the UK road networks
  • Knowledge of Transport legislation including drivers' hours/tacho
  • GCSE’s in Math’s & English grade C or above
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to use own initiative as well as work collaboratively
  • Willingness to review and suggest improvements to the Drivers and vehicle routing applications
