About The Role

We are seeking to recruit a motivated and experienced Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will hold an HNC or ONC (or have equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, along with significant post-qualification experience in the field.

In addition, we require candidates to hold specialist qualifications to Authorised Person level in a relevant engineering discipline.

You’ll be part of a professional estates team delivering a broad range of operational maintenance services across the Trust’s Retained Estate and elements of our PFI facilities. Working under the guidance of the Estates Operational Manager, you'll help ensure that all work complies with relevant legislation, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), and best practices.

Please note: This role involves participation in an on-call rota to provide emergency cover outside of normal working hours.

Main duties

As an Estates Shift Officer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality operational maintenance across the Trust’s Retained Estate and selected PFI facilities. You will report to the Estates Operational Manager and contribute to ensuring full compliance with relevant regulations, HTMs, and best industry practices.

  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance tasks across electrical and associated building systems.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with regulatory standards, HTMs, and safety protocols.
  • Support compliance audits, workforce planning protocols, and Estates Guidance Notices.
  • Contribute to the department’s ISO 9001:2015 quality management system.
  • Manage and deliver minor works projects across the estate, liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support capital project delivery when required.

Key Requirements

  • The post holder will, in conjunction with the Estates Operational Manager/Estates Officers manage the building service infrastructure.
  • The post holder will manage all resources delegated to them to ensure a safe, value for money and quality service is provided in support of the delegated budget holder.
  • The post holder will assist and manage projects from inception to completion.
  • The post holder will further develop and maintain the department’s operational procedures/policies/risk assessment and safe systems of work at all times to ensure the Trust is exposed to minimum risk in relation to its estate.
  • The post holder will be part of a team of five Shift Officers under the direction of the Estates Management Team for providing a comprehensive 24 hour, 7 day maintenance cover to all retained Trust buildings and any other SLA’s, including all SWYMHT Buildings on retained sites for out of normal hour’s emergencies.
  • The Shift Officer will undertake all work in compliance with relevant regulatory and advisory frameworks, Trust policies and the Estates Departments ISO9002 Quality Manual.
  • Assist in the formulation of Trust Policies in relation to out of hours working.
  • To undertake the role of HTM Competent Person and/or Authorised Person role in designated areas.
