About Our Services

Kibble supports vulnerable and at-risk children and young people (aged 5-19yrs) across a range of campus and community-based services. Many of the young people we care for have experienced significant trauma in their lives and Kibble offers dedicated care and support to help them move forward and achieve the best outcomes possible. These services include residential, secure services (Safe Centre) and community support, as well as dedicated education and wellbeing services. Job Purpose

As part of the pool lifeguard team in one of the UK’s most innovative and forward-thinking charities working with young people, the post holder will be required to maintain a safe, hygienic, and comfortable environment. Supervise bathers in the pool. Plan, organise and instruct activities within the pool. Carry out general daily cleaning and security checks as set out in Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plan. Attend staff training; ensure that qualification is kept up to date in line with Royal Life Saving Skills/Institute of Qualified Lifeguards guidelines.

Main Duties

  • To organise and coordinate pool inductions and activities.
  • To provide a safe environment for all young people and staff by being vigilant at all times and complying with Health and Safety guidelines.
  • To write and produce structured lesson plans for coordinated activities within the department.
  • Carry out cleaning of department to a high standard.
  • Carry out environmental, pool testing and daily check of department.
  • Carry out thorough security checks as trained after each activity.
  • To work as part of a designated staff team, operating at all times within Centre and Unit Policies.
  • To participate, as appropriate, in the department communication system. This may be verbally e.g. at staff handovers, meetings, by telephone etc. or in written form e.g. log books, diaries and, where appropriate, case notes.
  • To work within appropriate personal and professional boundaries, ensuring all information regarding young people and staff is treated with appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitivity.
  • To undertake any other relevant duties as directed by a senior staff member.
  • To work in other departments as required such as the fitness suite and gym.

Qualifications & Experience

  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is essential (RLSS preferred).
  • Previous experience working within the leisure industry is essential
  • Previous experience of working with young people is desirable.
  • HNC in relevant subject, for example Sports Coaching, Health and Fitness is desirable.
  • First Aid at Work Certificate and a Pool Plant Operators Certificate are desirable.
  • Possession of a qualification to teach swimming is desirable

  • Able to maintain a consistent, professional and non-confrontational approach at all times, whilst maintaining a flexible and creative approach to activities.
  • Able to form professional relationships with young people and staff.
  • A basic understanding of the issues confronting young people within Kibble.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-awareness.
  • Good observation skills.
  • Be vigilant at all times.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • The ability to work on your own and be able to develop good relationships with different teams quickly
