About The Role
The Site Electrical Engineer will be a key contributor to transforming asset management at the Hull site into a high-performing, efficient operation. This role encompasses ownership of the Electrical, Automation, and Instrumentation strategy, ensuring alignment with both local site needs and global engineering standards. Key responsibilities include driving improvements in energy efficiency, supporting both operational and capital projects, and managing life cycle engineering to sustain long-term asset reliability. The engineer will uphold and enhance site electrical standards, oversee critical systems such as PLC and SCADA, and ensure compliance with statutory regulations covering areas such as fixed wire testing, PA testing, DSEAR, and high-voltage systems. Additionally, the role plays a vital part in mitigating risks related to Major Accident Hazards (MAH) involving substances such as ammonia, hydrogen, and steam. Supporting the reliability program and collaborating closely with the maintenance and projects teams, this position is essential to the site’s operational excellence and long-term sustainability.

About The Role

Responsibilities
- Champion a strong safety culture by promoting safe behaviors and ensuring safety remains the highest priority.
- Lead proactive risk assessments, manage potential issues, and ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements to reduce health and safety risks.
- Support the implementation of the AAK Hull Reliability Strategy across the engineering function.
- Help transition the maintenance team from a reactive approach to a proactive, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
- Mentor and support the electrical maintenance team, ensuring they have the skills, resources, and guidance needed to achieve operational goals.
- Provide technical direction to Maintenance Technicians for upgrading and maintaining MCC and switchgear panel rooms to the required standards.
- Deliver clear and effective leadership to the electrical engineering function, ensuring strong governance and high standards of execution (with indirect responsibility for Electrical Maintenance Technicians).
- Drive best practices in electrical engineering and lead continuous improvement initiatives to elevate maintenance performance.
- Promote effective collaboration between Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, and Operations teams to align strategies and drive results.
- Offer cross-functional support to Safety, Quality, Food Safety, Environment, Production, and Projects functions.
- Engage with project teams early in the design phase to embed Electrical Standards and plan for electrical spares and instrumentation requirements.
- Support and promote the use of the company’s CMMS (Shire Systems) to maintain accurate, standardised data for monitoring asset and team performance.
- Lead the identification and execution of electrical project work, including ownership of the electrical obsolescence plan and replacement of end-of-life equipment.
- Support the development and execution of preventative and predictive maintenance systems to minimise unplanned downtime and improve MTBF and MTTR.
- HNC and/or degree-qualified in an engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience of 5-10 years.
- IOSH and/or NEBOSH certification is desirable.
- Member, or actively pursuing membership, of a recognised engineering institution.
- Industry experience in refinery and food manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- You bring the confidence and capability to lead and develop the site’s electrical engineering function.
- You are hands-on, actively supporting and coaching maintenance technicians to enhance their technical capability and performance.
- You have experience working in refinery and/or food manufacturing environments, with a solid understanding of the challenges and standards required.
- You possess a strong background in automation systems, with practical experience in PLCs and associated control technologies.
- You have a continuous improvement mindset, with experience applying Lean principles or similar methodologies to drive operational excellence.
