Summary
Allegro Power Business Unit is looking for a Senior System Engineer to join our Motor Drivers group, based in Edinburgh. The team develops motor drivers that include Gate drivers, ASIC and SoC system. Focus application segments are Automotive, Industrial and Cloud and datacentre infrastructure.
The successful candidate will have customer facing experience and will be comfortable in developing and communicating our products value proposition to internal and external customers.
She/he will work with customers to understand their system and application requirements, gain knowledge of system level and application design, resolve customer design issues and customer queries about Allegro products to ensure seamless integration. Working internally with strategic marketing teams, design teams, field application engineers and customers to specify new and differentiated products that address customer needs, generate technical value propositions, and help create collateral to convey messages to customers, sales teams, application marketing teams and other internal stakeholders and partners is required. The person will work closely work with design to validate product functionality and performance to ensure the products are built to specification. The role will also involve application engineering to build up customer support ecosystem, write application notes, functional validation of new products as well as early design-in activities.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for answering customer queries and support customer design issues in their applications.
- Understand Allegro motor driver products and provide technical support to customers for systems and applications designs.
- Understand performance knobs, device limits and performance to optimize system level design for efficiency, noise, other general performance metrics, as well as cost and size.
- Responsible for new product definitions throughout its lifecycle from concept definition to RTM.
- Build up customer support ecosystem to have design-in and write technical documents such as user guides, application notes, PCB layout guidelines etc.
- Conduct competitive analysis, deep understanding of customer applications and systems.
- Define and articulate Value-Add requirement of the products.
- Creation and maintenance of requirements and specifications documents.
- Collaborate with Design/Test and Manufacturing to ensure products are designed to specifications.
- Build validation plans and own their execution across multiple teams.
- Join force with strategic marketing for product promotions and collateral generations (reference design, evaluation boards, white paper, application notes, software tools etc),
- Collaborate with and train field application engineers to support customer designs.
- Customer engagement though demonstration with field application engineering and sales team.
- BSEE (MSEE preferred) or more and having some good understanding of gate drivers, motor control algorithms, such as sensorless FOC for PMSM, IPMSM or BLDC is a plus.
- Having good understanding of hardware design, power and high voltage design and applications and constraints arising in such applications like power budget, thermal budget, voltage ratings, noise and coupling is critical for this role.
- Basic simulation skills with MATLAN/Simulink and understanding of circuit design for motor control and power will be a plus.
- Knowledge of hardware tools such as PCB design, IC design and good understanding of specifications and requirements that must be considered for application / system level designs.
- Core electronics fundamentals and deep understanding of power electronics.
- Motor drivers and motor control evaluation skill in lab.
- Customer facing experience in a technical role is necessary.
- Strong lab and circuit debugging skills; experience in defining demo systems a plus
- Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
- Requires strong verbal and presentation skills, both in person and remotely. The successful candidate will possess a good balance of technical and business acumen, be comfortable multitasking in a dynamic environment, and have strong interpersonal skills.
