National Grid is hiring a Project Support Engineer for our Customer and Network Development department based in Warwick.

About The Role

As a Project Engineer you will develop engineering opportunities for Electricity Transmission (ET) that are clearly aligned to our strategic objectives, employing technical knowledge to assist in their conversion into tangible products and services.

You will communicate the ‘art of the possible’ to internal stakeholders by contributing to considered and approved benefits cases that are technically viable, articulate risk and that facilitate opportunity development.

This role will work with Development Engineers and Power Systems Engineers to transition opportunities to the accountable parties in the business-as-usual process, and supporting the strategic positioning of ET with customers, partners and stakeholders to maximise the chances of growth delivery.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver considered solutions that are supported/ directed by and meet the requirements of the project scope and the business, support the ET ambition, areclearly understood by stakeholders, plus balance risk appetite and opportunity.
  • Working with the Network Design teams to identify and focus on highest value growth opportunities. Progressing them with Development & Power Systems Engineers.
  • Delivering opportunities through appropriate governance by considering; the cost to achieve, customer and stakeholder value, risks and further work / business changes required to convert into material growth.
  • Industry engagement, insight and opportunity identification; supporting the interpretation of industry trends through direct stakeholder interaction, and customer trends via the delivery teams, to establish the most appropriate approach.
  • Internal stakeholder engagement and communication of growth developments to ensure ease of transition into business as usual process (where appropriate). Highlight to the business the tools, capability and resources necessary to deliver the ET strategy projects. Develop clear and agreed implementation plans that are agreed by the Development or Power Systems Engineer.
  • Support the development & maintenance of a flexible & extendable product catalogue for ET growth with the Development or Power Systems Engineers.
  • Assist in appropriate knowledge transfer and learning to the ET business to ‘sell’ products, identify potential new product opportunities, and develop them in BAU timescales. Attend customer interactions in a supporting capacity where required.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a robust and documented pre-application process.


What You'll Need

  • Technical experience of designing, developing, delivering infrastructure projects.
  • experience of projects or programmes of work with internal parties, in a leading or supporting capacity, that deliver engineering and technical solutions to address key customer and stakeholder needs.
  • Can think in a structured way to inform, and support business critical initiatives on a range of internal and external insights.
  • Able to apply an understanding of the technical, operational and commercial challenges facing the ET business to inform and lead new product development.
  • Technical and business acumen; can establish and convey economic and technical cases that lead to recommendations that balance opportunity and risk across a breadth of growth opportunities and products.
  • Able to translate ambiguous and undefined concepts into tangible opportunity. Applying engineering, asset, and regulatory understanding to novel applications and markets to derive value. Able to communicate complex ideas to internal stakeholders
