Afrikindness is looking to strengthen its Board of Trustees. We are seeking a trustee with finance & accountancy experience to support our work. Could you bring your understanding of charity finance to our board?

The role of Treasurer/Finance Trustee is so important to us - not only do we need someone to keep us on track financially and keep us viable, but even more significantly, we are looking for someone to help us formulate our vision for the future. We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

What are we looking for?

As well as sitting on the Board, the Finance specialist will also Oversee the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees. Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place. Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost management. Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity. Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with Chief Executive. Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process Ensuring investments and assets are maximized. Lead on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors. Oversee the development and implementation of systems for appraising, mitigating and reporting corporate risk. Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, for example, the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies. Finance Committee responsibilities To update, report and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees on all financial and related risk management matters, including the annual budget and cashflow forecast the management accounts and cash flow the signing of the statutory accounts the annual independent examination the risk register and reporting all policies and procedures relevant to financial management What we are looking for A finance professional. Knowledge of charity finance is an advantage. Otherwise, an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience, and an understanding of SMEs. Strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity. Clear communicator with the ability to bring financial information alive to non-finance specialists. Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a Finance Specialist that will maintain an overview of Afrikindness’s financial affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. Our Finance Trustee will play a vital role as part of our Board of Trustees, supporting Afrikindness governance, providing financial oversight and strategic direction, and ensuring that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are put in place. We are looking for a strategic thinker who will use their financial expertise to oversee our financial health and play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, and liaising with auditors. Good Knowledge of charity finance is important as your input will be critical as we mature as a charity and increase our activities and reach globally. The Finance team will take an active part in the financial decision-making for the charity. We would like to appoint experienced professionals with complementary skills in finance and business across the charity and commercial sectors, to join our Board of Trustees in leading and supporting the charity to deliver our goals. It is an aspiration that the Finance specialist would also act as the Honorary Treasurer.
