The Role
Barhale is one of three delivery partners within the Anglian Water Integrated Operational Solutions Alliance. IOS is a medium complexity, capital maintenance and enhancement, Civil and MEICA, design and build delivery unit working across Water and Water Recycling to support the successful implementation of the Anglian Water AMP 8 business plan.
The role of the Senior Project Manager is to lead a team to deliver Barhale’s S101a (First Time Sewerage) programme within the IOS alliance. Taking the projects from initial need, through detailed design, construction and handover to the client. This is expected to be a £60-£120 million pound programme through to March of 2030.

Key Responsibilities
General
- Lead and control the end-to-end processes of a group of projects through careful management of your team. Overseeing the design, construction, commissioning and aftercare of all projects.
- Create, develop, and sustain a high-performing team where you coach and train individuals to meet career aspirations and enhance team and organisational output and capabilities
- Chair and record monthly progress meetings.
- Assist the client and designers in developing the project scope so it is well-defined and understood.
- Identify and manage risk and opportunity.
- Implement commercial and technical change control processes.
- Manage and ensure compliance with project deliverables with internal and external assurance, governance, and review processes, including the production of relevant deliverables.
- Develop, maintain, and meet budgets and programmes.
- Collaboration with internal and external technical, operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders, and design coordinators.
- Coordinate and manage site investigations and surveys.
- Ensure production and implementation of Project Plans, risk assessments and method statements.
- Identify and manage early construction planning activities (e.g., procurement, consents, design).
- Manage inputs from other internal disciplines and teams (e.g., HSEQ, customer)
- Manage the safe delivery of the construction activities.
- Manage client customer engagement throughout the delivery of the programme.
- Take ownership and accountability for engineering solutions and designs.
- Produce design plans and briefs.
- Evaluate designs and solutions. Lead internal and external design reviews.
- Manage the delivery of designs that meet project objectives and comply with client, statutory and industry standards, regulations, and specifications.
- Ensure that safety, buildability, and environmental best practices are achieved through design.
- Management of inputs from the Barhale temporary works design office.
- Coordination of interfaces between permanent and temporary works design.
- Collaboration with the delivery team to ensure that designs are buildable and drive efficiency in construction.
- For key frameworks, understand the contract and how to develop the pre-construction phase of the project to complement the terms and conditions and KPIs.
- Be part of the bid team for the construction phase of projects and convey information to ensure maximum benefit from knowledge gained in the pre-construction phase.
- Review the client brief & contract. Advise Bid Manager on key commercial/delivery/design risks and assumptions to be included in the offer.
- Promote innovation to be delivered through the project lifecycle. Implement those innovative ideas into the project delivery plan.
- Promote different design & construction techniques to lead to enhanced construction contract performance.
- Produce financial forecasts, monitor, and control project costs and cost reporting, and produce monthly reports to the Regional Manager on project performance.
- Support supply chain selection for specialists’ input.
- Manage the agreed contract with suppliers and subcontractors, and ensure they deliver.
- Ensure procurement of plant and materials is in line with company and client procedures.
- Ensure that Health, Safety, Environment & Quality is considered during the development and implementation of strategies, projects, standards, and processes and never compromised at any stage.
- Effective discharge of relevant duties under CDM 2015.
- Manage HSE to ensure compliance with Company procedures and legal obligations.
- Ensure quality in line with the ‘be right first-time’ programme across your programme of works.
- Successful delivery of the pre-construction Option E phase to contract commercial ceiling and date, leading to a well-informed and sustainable main contract award.
- Successful delivery of the construction Option A phase to the fixed price and date.

- Experience in design/commercial/ construction/ leading project teams
- Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
- Good working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, Design Management, Programme & Risk Management, and cost control, including forecasting, actual cost, and value reporting.
- Ability to use Primavera P6 software or equivalent
- Excellent communication, people, and team management skills, with the ability to influence, motivate and mentor
- Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to a conclusion
- Ability to manage and deliver a successful project with minimal guidance
- Professional qualification and membership with a relevant industry body or institution
