Job Summary

The Department is responsible to the Recruiting Force Commander, (RF Cdr) through the Regional Commander Central Region (Reg Cdr Cen), and under the direction of the Office Manager (OM) of the West Midlands Hub, for the coordination, management, and processing of candidates with AFCOs. Based at AFCO Peterborough with building custodian duties in AFCO Cambridge, this will include recruitment operations, careers engagement, security clearances, facilities management, and reporting. Visits to other AFCOs in the Region (including overnight) may occasionally be required. Training will include a 3 week residential course at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire.

Applicants are advised that the post is included amongst those which may transfer to a new employer, depending on the outcome of a current project. If you are appointed, the project completes and you are still in the post on the date that the work transfers, you will transfer to a new employer under the TUPE Regulations.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

The successful applicant's duties will include-

  • Act as a point of contact for candidates who wish to join the RAF and co-ordinate responses from appropriate SMEs (guidance on the appropriate policy will be provided).
  • Day-to-day administration and expeditious handling of all Officer and Enlisted Aviator cases within Central Region AFCOs.
  • Building Custodian duties at AFCO Cambridge.
  • Undertake processing of those candidates specifically allocated to you by the military Office Manager.
  • Receipt of incoming phone calls and effective direction of candidates, including walk-ins. Interact and communicate with Initial Interviewees with judgement and discretion, relaying instructions, and providing current recruiting advice.
  • Ensure that Initial Interviews for candidates are booked and current, and up-to-date information is provided in relation to career opportunities within the RAF (guidance on the appropriate policy will be provided).
  • Book Officer candidates onto the Officer Presentation and ensure timely booking and administration of the Defence Aptitude Assessment.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records (auditable) in relation to the recruiting activity you undertake in line with policy (SharePoint/DPO direction and guidance will be provided).
  • Any other duties or tasking commensurate with your grade, as delegated by your Line Management.

Person specification

Being organised and having good interpersonal skills are highly desirable characteristics, as it will greatly assist with the daily tasks involved in this role. Most tasks will have a computer-based aspect, having a good knowledge of using common Microsoft applications (Outlooks, MS Teams, Excel, Word) would be beneficial. however, some applications may be unfamiliar, so it is expected that orientation and internal training will be required to become fully established in the role.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.  This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
