Working with the radio team in Sky News’ non-stop newsroom, you will be an excellent broadcaster who can write engaging radio news copy and cues, edit audio, and compile and read live timed bulletins for millions of listeners on commercial radio and on demand platforms

What You'll Do

As a key member of our audio news team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering compelling, accurate, and timely content across our radio and on-demand platforms. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Crafting Clear, Impactful News: Write sharp, engaging radio news copy and cues that make complex stories accessible and relevant to our audience.
  • Audio Editing & Bulletin Production: Edit audio, build and broadcast live, timed news bulletins, and create content for on-demand audio platforms.
  • Storytelling & Editorial Insight: Pitch original story ideas, develop fresh angles, and contribute to the creative treatment of our audio output.
  • Interviewing: Arrange and conduct interviews that bring stories to life and add depth to our coverage.
  • Editorial Judgment: Apply strong editorial instincts to ensure accuracy, fairness, and balance in all content.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Work a rotating shift pattern, including some weekends and overnight shifts, as part of a dynamic 24/7 news operation.
  • Cross-Platform Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across all Sky News platforms to ensure cohesive and consistent storytelling.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Maintain strong working relationships with our client radio stations and external partners.

What You'll Bring

  • A Confident, Professional Broadcasting Voice: Clear, and engaging delivery suited for live and recorded audio.
  • Scriptwriting Skills: Ability to craft concise, compelling scripts that translate complex news into accessible radio content.
  • Proven Experience in a Fast-Paced Newsroom: A strong track record as a broadcast journalist working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Strong News Sense: A firm grasp on national and international current affairs, with the ability to identify and develop key stories.
  • 24/7 Newsroom Agility: Experience contributing to a rolling news operation, with the flexibility to adapt as stories evolve.
  • Solid Radio Production Expertise: Proficiency in editing audio, building bulletins, and using broadcast tools and systems.
  • Editorial Integrity: A sound knowledge of media law, compliance, and ethical journalism standards.

Osterley

Our Osterley Campus is a 10-minute walk from Syon Lane train station. Or you can hop on one of our free shuttle buses that run to and from Osterley, Gunnersbury, Ealing Broadway and South Ealing tube stations. There are also plenty of bike shelters and showers.
