Are you someone who has a passion for leading and delivering excellence and would contribute great value in shaping your team of Official Veterinarians and Meat Hygiene Inspectors across Scotland?

As a leading member of the Field Operations team within Food Standards Scotland (FSS) you will be responsible for efficient deployment of our resources and a principle point of contact for the Food Businesses that we regulate within primary meat production. Operations Managers are responsible for delivery of Official Controls in meat premises across Scotland, with this role specifically covering central and south west of Scotland.

Working in collaboration with one of our FSS Veterinary Advisers, together you will be the management partnership for your assigned region and jointly cover all aspects of business and technical standards within our regulatory services. We are therefore looking for someone with strong leadership experience, sound business principles and an ability to partner and engage with our field staff and our industry stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver efficiency and effectiveness of Official Controls and Export Certification within a defined region and drive business compliance and operational performance in accordance with the Field Operations Business Plan and KPI framework.
  • Provide and manage accurate data to feed into the KPI system and be proficient in the use of the FSS data management in target setting and management of effective performance measurement.
  • Lead and manage staff within your span of control to improve culture and employee engagement through positive leadership and effective management of operational changes.
  • Develop resourcing plans to match service needs and apply a value for money approach to maximise effectiveness and efficiency in the deployment of personnel across the region, ensuring all aspects of Official Controls inspection and verification work can be achieved in alignment with statutory requirements.
  • Lead and manage delegated projects and operational initiatives as agreed by the Field Operations Senior Management, including managing risk and delivering project outcomes/outputs within agreed time, cost and quality parameters.

Working Pattern

Our standard hours are 35 hours per week. We offer a range of flexible and hybrid working options depending on the needs of the role. This role will have expectations of field visits across central and south west of Scotland. You will also be expected to visit FSS's HQ Pilgrim House, Aberdeen, on occasion.
