  • Join a dependable and knowledgeable team that values collaboration, open communication, and mutual support at every level of the organisation.

What You'll Do

As a Management Accountant based in Bolton, you will immerse yourself in a varied role that combines technical accounting expertise with strong interpersonal skills. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you taking charge of monthly management accounts production, leading critical month-end activities, and developing sophisticated financial models that underpin both operational reporting and strategic planning. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across different departments to ensure budgets are realistic and forecasts remain agile in response to changing circumstances. By managing balance sheet reconciliations and cashflow forecasts, you will provide essential insights that guide decision-making at every level. Your ability to communicate complex financial information clearly will be invaluable when liaising with external parties such as auditors or regulatory bodies. In addition to these core duties, you will champion process improvements, identifying ways to enhance efficiency while maintaining high standards of accuracy, and play an active role in mentoring junior team members. Success in this position requires not only technical proficiency but also a genuine commitment to teamwork, knowledge sharing, and continuous personal development.

  • Take ownership of producing monthly management accounts by posting key journals, conducting variance analysis, and delivering insightful commentary to inform business performance.
  • Lead the month-end close process with precision, ensuring all deadlines are met while maintaining accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial models used throughout month-end activities as well as during budgeting and forecasting cycles.
  • Manage all balance sheet reconciliations by understanding key movements and variances against budget or forecast figures.
  • Liaise effectively with external stakeholders such as investors, auditors, and HMRC to ensure compliance and transparency in all financial matters.
  • Drive the budgeting and forecasting processes by collaborating closely with department heads to translate business performance into meaningful financial outcomes.
  • Take full responsibility for cashflow forecasting, providing detailed variance analysis against budgets or forecasts while adapting projections based on actual results.
  • Support management in financial planning by acting as a trusted business partner to various departments across the organisation.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes proactively, reducing manual effort while increasing accuracy through best practice improvements.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of implemented changes using KPIs and feedback loops to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

What You Bring

To excel as a Management Accountant in this role, you will bring proven experience gained from similar positions where you have managed complex month-end procedures and contributed meaningfully to budgeting or forecasting activities. Your technical acumen should be matched by your ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation, translating intricate data into actionable insights for non-finance colleagues. A deep familiarity with current accounting standards ensures your work remains compliant while your advanced spreadsheet skills allow you to manipulate large datasets efficiently. Beyond technical requirements, your success will depend on being approachable yet dependable, a true collaborator who enjoys working closely with others towards shared objectives. Your willingness to mentor less experienced team members reflects your commitment not just to personal achievement but also collective progress. Above all else, your attention to detail combined with an eagerness for continuous learning sets you apart as someone who can thrive within this supportive environment.

  • Hold a recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) or possess equivalent experience (QBE), demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of management accounting principles.
  • Have at least three years’ experience working within a management accounts function where you have taken responsibility for month-end processes.
  • Demonstrate advanced Excel skills alongside proficiency in reporting software; experience with Power BI would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Showcase a solid understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS accounting standards relevant to the preparation of statutory accounts.
  • Possess excellent organisational abilities with proven reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, and self-motivation as core attributes.
  • Display strong interpersonal skills that enable you to build positive relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders alike.
  • Be comfortable mentoring junior colleagues by sharing knowledge generously while nurturing their professional growth within the finance team.
  • Exhibit an enthusiastic approach towards problem-solving coupled with an openness to challenge existing practices constructively for better outcomes.
  • Demonstrate flexibility when adapting forecasts or responding quickly to new information during budgeting cycles or cashflow analysis exercises.
  • Maintain a proactive attitude towards identifying process improvements that benefit both accuracy levels and overall efficiency.
