LOCATION: Salford - Hybrid

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,000 - £48,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Production Accountants work in partnership with programme makers across different production genres. They provide financial expertise and guidance to production teams to enable effective financial control and decision-making. They ensure productions operate within financial control frameworks.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Production Accounting team at BBC Studios, supporting our vibrant and creative Kids & Family productions. As a Production Accountant, you will be part of a collaborative and supportive finance team embedded within production, working closely with Production Management to help bring world-class content to life

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Budget Management: Oversee financial control of production budgets, including staff costs and income, ensuring alignment with creative and operational goals.
  • Forecasting & Reporting: Prepare accurate forecasts and phased final cost projections; deliver regular cost reports and financial insights to stakeholders. Expenditure Monitoring: Track actual spend against budget using BBC systems, flagging variances and advising on corrective actions promptly.
  • Final Accounts & Month-End: Prepare final accounts, settle outstanding claims, and ensure timely and accurate month-end reporting and account closure.
  • Governance & Compliance: Maintain audit trails, support internal/external audits, and ensure adherence to BBC policies and HMRC regulations.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and support Assistant Production Accountants, identifying development needs and contributing to team growth.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to financial analysis, innovation, and best practice sharing to enhance quality, efficiency, and strategic decision-making.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Skilled in identifying cost drivers, maintaining budget oversight, and delivering accurate cost control and forecasting.
  • Understands the financial implications of editorial decisions and can evaluate options from both creative and financial perspectives.
  • Highly organised with strong planning skills, able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines with precision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and clearly explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • A team player with a positive, problem-solving mindset and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Actively supports personal and team development, fostering continuous learning and growth.

Desired But Not Required

  • Proven experience in production finance within a media environment, with strong understanding of industry-specific financial practices.
