Job Overview
CONSULTANT IN CARDIOLOGY
Applications are invited for a full-time substantive position within the Cardiology Team. The successful candidate will join a friendly, enthusiastic and forward thinking team, and contribute to both an acute and elective cardiology service.
The role comprises of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's) per week.
The Consultant Cardiologist team provide both an acute and elective cardiology service. They cover the Coronary Care Unit during the weekdays, conducting a coronary care ward round on weekday mornings at 08.30 hrs. They also provide cardiology input as requested for patients admitted by the physicians and assume ongoing responsibility for those needing intervention and other specialist input. They look after cardiology in-patients undertaking further diagnostic and therapeutic intervention. There are close links with the cardiology service at Leeds. Non- invasive diagnostic services are provided by the cardiac technical staff who also run the pacing clinic. Rapid access chest pain referrals are integrated into the outpatient cardiology clinics that operate on a comprehensive one stop principle. Facilities for CT coronary angiography, trans-oesophageal echocardiography and stress echocardiography are already well developed. Complex device implantation (>100 complex devices performed per year) is well established for implanting ICD, CRT-P, CRT-D, as well as routine bradycardia devices.

Essential Criteria
- MBChB or equivalent
- MRCP UK or equivalent
- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register at time of application via either CCT or CESR
- An appropriate higher degree or qualification (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Essential criteria
- Depth and breadth of clinical experience in Cardiology and General Medicine
- A special interest that will complement those existing in the department
- Experience at locum or substantive consultant level
Essential Criteria
- Evidence of teaching appropriate to medical students, doctors in training, and multidisciplinary teams
- Postgraduate qualification in medical teaching
