Sister / Charge Nurse – Heathlands Intermediate Care Unit

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and compassionate Sister or Charge Nurse to join the Heathlands Intermediate Care team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced nurse with a passion for elderly care and a strong belief in the ethos that “rehabilitation is everyone’s business.” You will play a key role in supporting patients to regain independence and confidence, enabling a safe and timely return home.

About You

  • Registered Nurse (NMC).
  • Substantial post-registration experience, ideally within a medical or elderly care setting.
  • Confident in leading a team, managing shifts, and making autonomous decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-focused approach.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of shifts, ensuring high standards of patient care and safety.
  • Work closely with the Unit Manager, Matron, and medical staff in planning care and coordinating effective discharge pathways.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including therapists, a Consultant Geriatrician, and community services to provide seamless, patient-centred care.
  • Lead on liaison with patients and their families to ensure clear communication and a positive care experience.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Current first or second-level NMC Registration
  • Evidence of recent Continuous Professional Development
  • Working towards gaining a teaching certificate
  • Mentorship Course/ENB 998

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching certificate

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Discharge planning
  • Evidence of high standards of clinical practice
  • Previous recent experience as a nurse
  • Cannulation and Phlebotomy

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of supervision

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Teaching experience
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Computer literate

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to adapt to change within working situations

Special requirements

  • Flexible approach - able to work flexible shifts
