Are you passionate about microbiology and quality assurance? At Smith & Nephew, we’re looking for a dedicated Microbiology Engineer to join our QA Microbiology team in Hull. What will you be doing?
As a Microbiology Engineer, your days will be filled with purpose and precision. You’ll be at the heart of our microbiological testing operations, preparing media and conducting routine tests that ensure our products meet the highest standards of sterility. You’ll monitor the environment in our manufacturing areas, manage lab consumables, and dive into data to uncover trends that inform smarter decisions. When issues arise, you’ll be part of the team investigating non-conformances and driving timely resolutions. You’ll also contribute to method development and sterilisation validation, ensuring our processes remain robust and compliant. Collaboration will be key, as you work closely with QA, production, and cross-functional teams to keep our operations running smoothly and our patients safe.

Success in this role means becoming a trusted guardian of quality. You’ll be known for delivering accurate, timely test results that support product release and uphold sterility assurance. Your keen eye for data will help identify patterns and opportunities for improvement, to keep the lab practices evolving. You’ll be a reliable contributor to investigations and validations, ensuring compliance with ISO standards and medical device regulations. Most importantly, you’ll be helping to foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
