Contract type: Full time
Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation.

Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.

As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.

As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a CAE Project Lead to manage and support the Engineering Analysis Team for all project activities, including thermal, stress and vibration analysis. The role will also ensure the evaluations drive robust, efficient and commercially attractive designs for electric propulsion architecture including the motor, controller, gearbox and heat exchanger.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and supervise analyses undertaken by the team or third parties in support of projects and from time to time as needed, undertake relevant analysis on product designs
  • Coach and mentor junior and senior CAE engineers to develop rigorous engineering know-how and capability
  • Establish training and development plans for team members
  • Support the Head of Engineering Analysis to define, implement and enforce the needed CAE engineering processes/policies/certification methods to ensure design assessments are fit for purpose, in good control and consistently applied throughout the whole team
  • Undertake Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural analysis on electric propulsion unit (EPU) assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Support project teams by giving expert advice and guidance on CAE aspects as a minimum from the concept phase through to product launch
  • Support validation activities and assess analysis results against real-world constraints and draw sound conclusions
  • Develop pragmatic ideas and engineering solutions to practical challenges arising from new product design
  • Validate and assess results against customer specifications and draw sound conclusions
  • Support R&D activities with sufficient resource from the team whilst maintaining project obligations
  • Implement CAE tools to support reliable and optimised design solutions based on strength, mass and manufacturability
  • Develop ideas and design solutions to practical challenges arising from new product design
  • Investigate and draw conclusions on root cause analysis of products
  • Liaise with key suppliers and customers on design and development issues, resolve to the optimal solution and understand the compromises
  • Support DFMEAs, other quality techniques and complete actions required to mitigate risks
  • Approve CAE reports ensuring the work carried out and documented is accurate and representative of the design
  • As a process owner, ensure the process complies with regulatory and standard requirements and is fit for purpose
  • Undertake any other duties that may be considered appropriate

Skills and experience required:

  • Proven experience in an Aerospace CAE environment
  • Experience in managing a team and driving synergy and collaboration
  • Practical knowledge in the design, use, and application of electric machines or rotational/complex components
  • Optimisation skills are essential
  • Have a strong mechanical or electrical engineering background, but more importantly, be able to apply knowledge to real-world situations
  • Creative problem solver, with an analytical approach to implementation
  • Strong experience with finite element analysis methods and programs e.g. ANSYS (ideally), Abaqus, etc.
  • Self-sufficient and able to work with minimal managerial input
  • Good understanding of aerospace materials and associated mechanical properties and processing
  • Confident with customers and suppliers, able to interpret requirements and understand issues
  • Flexible approach to work, desire to thrive in a dynamic and exciting fast-moving environment
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams
  • Self-motivated with the determination to succeed
