Specialty Doctor Emergency Medicine
Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust
Date: 1 day ago
City: Guildford, England
Contract type: Full time

We are seeking enthusiastic Specialty Doctors in Emergency Medicine to join the existing ED team. It is an exciting time to join our team as the new ED has recently opened; the £8M redevelopment plan has delivered a bigger footprint and new Paediatric, Major and CDU areas. There is considerable scope for the successful candidates to be involved in service re-design and quality improvement projects, shaping the Departments future development and improvement of patient care.
The department has a CESR program which includes regular teaching and rotations to ITU and Anaesthesia. Our middle grades are selected with the long-term view of career development and retention. This creates an up-skilled, motivated and progressive middle grade work force.
The department’s many attributes include regional accreditation as a Trauma Unit, established as regional point of care ultrasound (POCUS) training centre with daily teaching run by accredited trainers. We also boast multi professional simulation sessions and dedicated teaching in addition to our unique CESR program.
We would expect the successful candidate to have an understanding of the principles of clinical audit, clinical governance and evidence-based medicine. These are actively practiced in the department and contributions by the Middle Grades are fully supported. There is an active regional research group and research interests of the post holder would be supported.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to lead a quality improvement project and an Audit.
The post-holder will be expected to receive, examine, investigate, treat and refer appropriately patients of all descriptions arriving at the Emergency Department. The postholder has a duty to seek help from more senior colleagues when uncertain of how to manage any particular patient.
He/she must have a thorough up-todate knowledge of resuscitation techniques and take a major role in the employment of these in the resuscitation of critically ill and injured patients brought into the Department.
The post-holder must ensure that all relevant documentation is completed for each patient seen, including the required data input for the departmental computer systems and the generation of a GP letter.
The post-holder will be encouraged to update their knowledge and skills by attending appropriate courses/meetings. Appraisal will be used to monitor progress throughout the post and to identify future training needs.
Please refer to the full job description attached for further details of duties.
