About the role:


As a Progressions Lead, you will focus on helping people we support to access

structured work experience and paid work opportunities to help them develop their

skills and achieve their long-term goals.


You will oversee placements and create tailored progression plans to support people

to develop their skills as part of a work experience programme based at The Green

Community Café.


In addition, the role will connect with local employers who could offer paid work or

volunteering opportunities for people we support. You will play a key role in upskilling

local employers and advocating for adjustments in the workplace so that people we

support can thrive and sustain a working life.


Supporting people’s individual development at The Green:


  • Overseeing the work placement of 9 people across a structured 12-month work experience opportunity at the café
  • You will oversee the work of café volunteers on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that everyone knows the tasks that they are responsible for and that they are trained sufficiently to carry out their tasks efficiently and safely
  • Liaising with the café supervisor to gain a clear understanding of the duties within the café
  • Ability to break down complex tasks into simple steps and to demonstrate these to people we support
  • Creating a fun, inclusive and progression focussed environment at the café
  • Developing a structured progressions plan for each person we support
  • Working with people we support to decide on a positive next steps plan, once their placement has finished
  • Supporting people to achieve their food hygiene certificate, health and safety certificates and other unit awards
  • Organise an event to celebrate the achievements of people we support


Supporting people’s individual goals:


  • Working collaboratively with job coaches to identify the types of employers and paid work opportunities needed for people we support
  • Establishing and building a network of employer contacts across the Bury borough who fit the Supported Employment (SE) model philosophy
  • Ability to match ‘job-ready’ people to prospective employers
  • Raising the profile of supported employment through borough wide forums or employer networks
  • Supporting employers to make reasonable adjustments in the workplace for people with a learning disability
  • Completing health & safety questionnaires with employers


What do I need to be a Progressions Lead?


  • Either possess or demonstrate a willingness to work towards a relevant Level 3 qualification
  • Demonstrate a willingness to upskill and learn about systematic instruction techniques
  • Experience of working with people with a learning disability or neurodiversity
  • Experience in developing action plans to address skills gaps
  • Knowledge of the Supported Employment (SE) model
  • Knowledge of the barriers that people with a disability face when accessing paid employment
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining employer relationships
  • Positive, motivational and enthusiastic attitude towards helping people develop skills and achieve goals
  • A belief that everyone can work to some degree
  • A desire to work with people who have a learning disability and/or neurodiversity
