We have an exciting opportunity to join the Operations team in the role of Site Manufacturing Lead at our Johnstones site as part of ‘Finsbury Food Group’. Finsbury Food Group is a leading speciality bakery manufacturer. To be successful in this role, you will need to be passionate about leading and developing people and be driven to achieve results. Previous experience of working in the food processing/manufacturing industry is desirable and you will be experienced in leading people effectively.

This is what you’ll actually do!

In this busy and varied role you will be a vital part of the Operations Team reporting to the Site Lead. In the role you will be a strong leader, leading in a fast moving and constantly changing environment, whilst balancing the demands of customers, management and staff. You will be creating an empowering culture to build a high performing team and you will manage, develop and lead your team through all aspects of operation, competence and development. Delivering against core people metrics, including absence management, performance management, retention and agency usage is imperative. Strong leadership of the Area Managers will help to ensure shared responsibility for delivering all KPI’s and targets.

You will take a continuous improvement approach with employee engagement being part of the unit plans. Clear communication is key to make a success of the position, particularly when setting objectives and during one to one’s or performance management conversations.

Compliance will play a big part of the role, with the need to meet all applicable corporate and legal standards such as safety, quality, hygiene, environment and security. In the role you will deliver the operational strategy and implement and drive continuous improvement across both Manufacturing and Hygiene. This will include your involvement in our CCi Programme and there will be the opportunity for participating in and leading ad hoc projects. You will ensure your team produce consistent product quality that complies with company standards and exceeds customer expectation.

An important part of the role will require you to review working practices, developing your knowledge of the product range and production issues in order to facilitate more flexible working and labour optimization, including new shift patterns and scheduling as well as understanding and owning operational issues. You will also own and review the area organisation structure and headcount standards, ensuring appropriate succession plans, recruitment and development plans are in place.

In the role will be required to work cross functionally with the ability to build positive relationships with key stakeholders including Operations, Health and Safety, Technical, Engineering and People teams.

Ideally this is you!

  • Experienced in leading people effectively.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading high performing and engaged teams.
  • Exposure to continuous and batch process FMCG environment.
  • Can demonstrate a sound understanding of the manufacturing processes.
  • Previous experience of Supermarket multiples.
  • Numerate with ability to understand how to make improvements which influence company profitability.
  • Understanding of P&L to gross margin level.
  • Ideally educated to at least HND or equivalent in a Business subject.
