The Prison is the UK’s first purpose-built, new resettlement Prison. After opening in 2022 it is a one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future and has become an integral part of the local community.

G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.

We are looking for a dedicated First Line Manager (FLM) to join our Intel Team. You may already have FLM experience within a custodial environment and are seeking a new challenge or you may currently hold the position of Prison (Custody) Officer and are ready for the next step in your career. Reporting to the Internal Intelligence Manager you will provide professional advice, guidance and support to operational staff in order to maintain good order and discipline of the establishment. You will also provide prisoners with a safe and decent environment that encourages rehabilitation. Manage the effective deployment of staff.

  • The FLM role is a crucial role for coaching, mentoring and developing staff whilst offering hands-on support and motivation.


Some of the key responsibilities are;

  • Provide a secure and safe environment in which prisoners receive all statutory rights in line with contractual obligations and company policies and procedures.
  • Coach and support staff to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures including security instructions and contractual requirements are met including PDR’s and managing sickness absence.
  • Manage the team of admins and analysts to ensure productivity.
  • Manage all aspects of intelligence within the prison.
  • Co-ordinate all security and control measures within the prison in line with local security instructions ensuring that all staff are aware of their responsibilities so that the security of the prison is maintained.
  • Manage and maintain the security intelligence process’ and systems.
  • Attend meetings when required to do so representing the department.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & following the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

You will have a consultative and can do attitude, supporting and coaching staff to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures are met.

You must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral, alongside good negotiation and influencing skills and a high level of resilience.

It is essential that you have experience of working within a multifunctional and demanding environment. You will be a dynamic and engaging individual with a good sense of humour. As a proven professional, you will be an integral part of the HMP Five Wells team.
