Overview:

Our client is seeking a Witness Care Officer to join their Witness Care Unit, part of the wider Criminal Justice Department. This vital office-based role supports victims and witnesses involved in a range of criminal cases, ensuring their needs are met throughout the judicial process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain regular contact with victims and witnesses via telephone, email, letter, and SMS.
  • Provide updates, court outcomes, and practical support including travel, accommodation, interpreters, and childcare arrangements.
  • Gather and relay witness availability to the Crown Prosecution Service to aid in trial scheduling.
  • Notify of last-minute changes to trial arrangements and make referrals to support organisations.
  • Engage with police officers, CPS, HMCTS, and Witness Services to ensure effective trial proceedings.
  • Adhere to the standards set out in the Victim’s Code of Practice and Witness Charter, particularly regarding timely updates within 24 hours of court outcomes.
  • Support ongoing engagement of victims and witnesses throughout extended court timelines.

Requirements:

  • Experience in delivering services or support in a sensitive and pressurised environment.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage a high-volume caseload to strict deadlines.
  • Capability to maintain emotional detachment while delivering a victim-centred service.
  • Willingness to work occasional late shifts on a rota basis.

Additional Information:

  • Applicants must have lived in the UK for at least the past three years to meet the vetting requirements.
