Community Engagement Officer
Sense

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sense’s team within Sense TouchBase Pears as our Community Engagement Officer. This permanent role working 30 hours per week.
The successful candidate will develop and run a successful community events programme, using Sense TouchBase Pears to connect with the people we support and the wider local community.
Responsibilities Include:
- Research local needs and interests and, together with local community providers, create and deliver a diverse range of inclusive, accessible activities.
- Work with Sense art, sports and wellbeing team to integrate their services within the community programme
- Work with the Head of Volunteering to recruit volunteers and, where appropriate, staff to support activities.
- Undertake all administrative duties involved in delivering the community facing activities.
- Work with colleagues in other teams to find high quality events providers and market events efficiently and effectively.
- Support the delivery of the wider marketing and communications plan for Sense TouchBase Pears, of which the community engagement programme is an integral part.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of Sense’s vision, mission and impact - and the role Sense TouchBase Pears plays within this.
Key skills and experience
- Able to champion Sense values and demonstrate a positive attitude towards working with people who have complex disabilities and a commitment to ensuring barriers to inclusion are overcome and equal opportunities for everyone.
- Able to build a good rapport and sustain relationships with a diverse range of people, including those supported by Sense, volunteers, staff, other professionals, local residents and third sector organisations.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- Project managing and organising events that require working with a diverse range of people.
- Knowledge of Selly Oak and the surrounding area.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, when necessary.
