Salary: Competitive

Working Hours: Full Time Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week / Part Time also considered.

As a hands-on Head of SHEQ, you will have a pivotal role in delivering and maintaining a robust SHEQ performance regime company wide. Leading on all aspects of SHEQ performance, you will be responsible for ensuring continuous improvement to our in-house standards, systems and procedures, implementing legislative compliance and best practices across the teams. With a genuine passion for all aspects of SHEQ, you will play a key role in developing company strategy and building a modern progressive safety culture throughout the business.

This role will work closely with the Executive Team and all business heads in delivering the SHEQ strategy which will support the group with its future growth aspirations. The role leads the SHEQ department and provides line management to direct reports.

What We Need from Yü

Here’s a taste of what you’ll be doing:

  • Developing the health and safety strategy, ensuring this is fit for purpose and industry best practice for our field engineering and across all our office teams.
  • Leading the implementation and compliance of the health and safety policies and procedures in the office facilities and in the field.
  • Proactively keeping updated with key changes to legislation and ensuring the organisation remains compliant.
  • Engaging with senior managers, clients and external stakeholders ensuring responsibilities are clear, holding individuals to account and answering technical health and safety related enquires.
  • Continually developing and reviewing the health and safety management system in line with industry best practice.
  • Own the business Risk Register for field operations.
  • Implement and validate procedures are being adhered to in line with guidelines related to legislation, safety and ISO and full ensure compliance from the organisation.
  • Analysis and production of monthly performance measurement (KPI) reports, reporting on performance trends, identifying, and recommending actions to improve performance.
  • Conduct accident investigations and reports and creating a learning culture.
  • Liaise with the Health and Safety Executive and other regulatory bodies as required.
  • Work with HR on Occupational Health and workforce initiatives.

  • Proven experience in a similar role within utilities (gas and electricity installations) or a similar regulatory driven environment
  • Knowledge and experience of defining and implementing a modern, progressive Health and Safety culture across a business
  • Hold a NEBOSH/NCRQ Diploma or NVQ 5 (or equivalent) and relevant membership of IOSH
  • The ability to influence and engage key internal and external stakeholders from operations on the ground to the Boardroom
  • A strong technical knowledge across relevant health and safety legislation, compliance and regulations
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of 2015 CDM regulations and health and safety best practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software
  • Vibrant and confident character, who can bring fresh and new ideas to the company
  • Able to problem solve and demonstrate operational and strategic skills.
  • A “roll up your sleeves and lead by example” individual.
  • Able to be mobile to support engineers across Great Britain, being visible to provide appropriate training, support and review of activities.
