The Role Scope

The Buyer plays a pivotal role in strategically sourcing and procuring branded fashion and sports products from leading global brands and locally relevant trend suppliers. Success in this role requires a strong commercial mindset and a data-driven approach—leveraging sales performance insights to inform buying decisions, optimise stock selection, and drive both revenue and profitability.

The Buyer is also responsible for building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure access to the best products at the right time, price, and quality.

This role is instrumental in ensuring that the right products are sourced and delivered at the optimal time, price, and quality—aligning with business goals and enhancing the overall customer experience

Role key responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop the ultimate Brand Portfolio for your division, ensuring diversity across the brand portfolio; Good, Better, Best, newness, consumer desire and profitability

  • Create affected pricing architecture by each category, brand and gender

  • Build strong partnerships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers and brands

  • Deliver the budgeted product margin ensuring seasonal and yearly profitability improvement.

  • Work collaboratively with merchandising partners to execute weekly margin downs, ensuring stock turn and profitability KPIs are achieved

  • Purchase stock in line with budget, ensuring OTB alignment and adjustments for overspends / under performance monthly.

  • Review performance indicators weekly/monthly and re-evaluate.

  • Scrutinise stock turn performance monthly to ensure we address aged stock, slow selling items

  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure the most competitive discounts on wholesale prices while ensuring timely inbound deliveries. Additionally, maintain sufficient margins to accommodate markdown strategies

  • Attend trade fairs and visit retail in the UK and abroad, to select new brands, product trends, new relationships and industry insights

  • Analyse sales figures

Skill / Competency

  • Previous buying experience in a fast moving fashion / sports retailer, off price experience is helpful although not critical depending on experience

  • Must have a proven history of successfully driving sales results and profit

  • Must have strong analytical, financial, strategic and planning skills

  • Excellent communications, relationship and negotiation skills

  • A network of relationships within the industry or sector

  • A strong knowledge of product, trends and market place awareness

  • Fantastic leadership skills
